How it all began.

I didn’t choose art as a subject in school, so after the curriculum imposed classes in first and second year I didn’t so much as doodle again. My creativity lay elsewhere, in poetry and short stories.

And then came COVID.
Like a lot of people I picked up a new hobby during the COVID pandemic. Art was always something I’d admired, but to be honest if you’d asked me to draw something it would have been a stickman kind of sketch. I have a lot of creative and artistic friends though, and one friend in particular is the reason I paint and draw today.
My dear childhood friend Smudge (Elaine), who is a phenomenal artist (to be honest I don’t think she realises just how great her artwork is) and I set each other a challenge during COVID to turn the tables. She would write me a poem, and I would paint her a picture.
I was hooked! I still write poetry occasionally, but art is my new love.
I hope you’ll join me on my journey and enjoy the art as it unfolds. Some of you may already have an AliHal picture on your wall. If not follow along and hopefully I will be coming to a wall near you.
